NEW VOLUME AND ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION AT THE KÜNSTLERHAUS SAARBRÜCKEN

The cultural journal Rhinozeros. Europa im Übergang (Europe in transition) brings together contributions from fellows and artists in residence with selected voices from artists and authors beyond the centre. The fifth volume of the CURE yearbook, on the theme of lying and lies, will be published at the end of November by the prominent trade publisher Matthes & Seitz Berlin.

Rhinozeros 5 examines the lies that undermine our society. This year’s leading question: How can we find ways to live together in a divided world without first asking what is true? Right-wing authoritarian movements are once again working to turn lies into truth. How can we respond to this assault on truthfulness? And how can the res publica be defended against the distortion of reality?

The volume features texts by Isabel Capeloa Gil, Jacques Derrida, Ricardo Domeneck, Kossi Efoui, Forensic Architecture, Angélica Freitas, Jan Friedrich, Mohamed Kerrou, Alexander Koller, Curzio Malaparte, Herta Müller, Oliver Precht, Lars Ramberg, Cord Riechelmann, Diana Rodríguez Vértiz, Situation Room, Sun Wei, Željana Tunić, Ines Weizman, and Isabel Zapata, with rhinoceros drawings by Friederike Groß.

On 1 December at 8 p.m., the Rhinozeros yearbook will celebrate its fifth anniversary with a public event at the Saarländisches Künstlerhaus in Saarbrücken. Alongside conversations about its history, its founding idea, and the role of cultural journals today, the evening will present the most recent issue. The programme includes a reading of poems written by Nobel laureate Herta Müller, while Rhinozeros caricaturist and professor of illustration Friederike Groß will contribute live drawings to the evening. A reception with drinks following the programme will offer an opportunity for exchange and conversation.
