PROGRAM
The exhibition “An die erloschenen Sterne” (To the Extinct Stars) showcases a selection of pieces from the larger exhibition “Im Gedächtnis derer, die geblieben sind” (In Memory of Those Who Remained), which was held in Graz, from December 2024 to February 2025.
The aim of the exhibition is to give the unique memories of Rwandans in Rwanda and in the diaspora the space they deserve, offering the public the opportunity to connect with the thoughts, memories and stories of those who experienced the genocide as parents or children.
The texts and drawings on display are the result of a therapeutic process that combines artistic creation and healing imagination. The forms of remembrance developed by the survivors can be described as “hybrid” in that they blend cultural traditions and contain a strong spiritual dimension to honour and remember those who were lost and to help those left behind to cope with their grief.
The exhibition will be officially opened on 24 June at 5:00 p.m.
The opening will be accompanied by a panel discussion featuring Magnifique Neza (Kigali/EHESS Paris) and Florence Prudhomme (NGO Rwanda Avenir, Kigali/Paris). The discussion will be moderated by Aurélia Kalisky (KHK CURE).
