Berlin-based artist Régis Lemberthe turned an education in social design into a practice focused on imagining, representing, and exploring possible futures. Together with studio N O R M A L S, they use design fiction to provoke conversation about our collective ability to enact change, the consequences of our choices – or lack thereof – and the value systems these perpetuate. Over the past few years, the studio has worked with policy-makers, climate scientists, insurance companies, museums, and universities, aiming to challenge existing visions of the future and foster strategic thinking that proactively drives change rather than reacts to it. A more recent collaboration with French author Camille de Toledo, founder of the Parlement de Loire, has led Régis Lemberthe to devise a series of workshops based on a speculative narrative of rivers as workers who have gained economic agency and, with it, the power to invest in their own future.
